Thinking about heading to Las Vegas? While planning your itinerary, your budget, and where you might stay are important factors of any trip when visiting Las Vegas, timing matters too. The weather and humidity, the crowds and events that Vegas is known for, will definitely shape your overall experience, so it makes sense to consider the season you’re planning on visiting so you can make the most of your trip.

Each season offers something different in Las Vegas, from glitzy pool parties in the summer months to twinkling festive lights in the winter, let’s take a look at when you might want to consider visiting the Entertainment Capital of the World, and what to expect when you get there.

Where to Stay and When

Accommodation can make or break any vacation, and in Las Vegas, although there’s plenty to choose from, taking the time to consider when you’re going to book and which days of the week you’re going to stay can not only help you snag the hotel you had in mind, but also help you get it at the right price! Booking early will usually help you secure a good deal on a hotel, especially during the busier seasons such as summer and spring. Hotels are usually cheaper midweek than on weekends, and this is due to a spike in the demand for hotel rooms – think of last-minute romantic weekends and trips away with friends!

If you want to save even more money, then consider a hotel or stay that’s off the main strip. You’ll still be in the heart of the action, but you may find the vibe a little less intense, with fewer crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere.

The Seasons in Las Vegas – A Visitor’s Guide

Ultimately, regardless of the season you choose, Las Vegas is an impressive destination at any time of year. However, it’s always worth taking a closer look at all the potential options in case there’s something you would rather experience, see, or do during your trip.

Perhaps a member of your family doesn’t do well in the heat, or maybe you’re keen to split your time between the Strip and some other local landmarks before winter weather kicks in. Whatever kind of vacation you’re planning, take a look below at some factors to consider when choosing a season to visit Vegas.

Spring Time: March-May

If you prefer milder daytime weather and don’t mind chillier evening temperatures, then planning your trip to Vegas in the spring months might be a better option. Here you can expect temperatures of around 21-30°C / 70-85°F, which to some can still seem pretty warm, especially if you’re wandering about on the Strip amongst the crowds. This time of year also means festivals and events, so visitors can expect plenty of food festivals and music shows to fill their itineraries. Just make sure you book tickets in advance as well as restaurant reservations to avoid disappointment.

Summer: June-August

Some like it hot! And in Vegas, you can expect the hottest temperatures between June and August, with the mercury reaching highs of 40°C / 104°F and even higher in the middle of the day. It’s good news for those who want to spend afternoons by the pool or early mornings inside the air-conditioned casinos. If you and your friends are intrigued by the Las Vegas nightlife, you certainly won’t need a jacket when the sun goes down.

Interestingly, many hotels are conscious of the heat and understand that some travellers, particularly families, might not want to visit during this season, so look out for some discounts on suites and rooms. With careful planning, you can easily escape the blistering heat and keep cool and fresh during the day.

Autumn: September-November

Hoping to split your time between the Strip and the great outdoors? Arguably, the best season to make the most of this kind of trip is autumn. As the cooler weather sets in, it’s certainly ideal for exploring and enjoying some outdoor adventures, such as hiking, golf and visiting locations like the Grand Canyon. You’ll still need sunscreen and sun protection during the day, but you’ll appreciate the fewer crowds and enjoy being able to split your time between both indoor and outdoor activities. Naturally, still expect plenty of like-minded visitors who’ve come to see shows or to soak up the atmosphere in this lively city.

Winter: December-February

If some glamorous Christmas cheer and a glitzy start to the New Year are what you had in mind, then you won’t get better than visiting Vegas during the winter months. Visitors can expect mild daytime weather but chillier evenings, so wearing layers is certainly recommended. Vegas really gets into the holiday spirit, so you can expect beautiful and breathtaking decorations, exciting New Year’s Eve parties and plenty of indoor entertainment. It’s a great time of year for shows with good deals on dining and accommodation too.
