Every three years the city of Ghent in Belgium lights up with a series of spectacular and imaginative light installations from international artists, the Light Festival Ghent.

The festival will demonstrate the beauty of Ghent

The Ghent Festival of Light will also be staged from 31 January to 4 February 2024.

During the Festival you can explore the historic sites and monuments of this city of Flanders steeped in such a rich history from a completely fresh perspective.

The Ghent Festival of light puts the Belgium city well and truly in the international spotlight.

Alternatively, if you can’t make the festival you can always follow a walk around Ghent’s illuminated squares and buildings at night.

The walk takes around two hours, so make sure you don’t set off too late as at midnight the atmospheric lighting is replaced by street lights.

Getting to Ghent

The simplest, most comfortable and environmentally friendly way to travel from the UK to Ghent is to by Eurostar from London St Pancras to Brussels. Regular trains run from Brussels to Gent Sint Pieters Station, taking around 30 minutes. From there take the No. 1 tram to the city centre, or walk approximately 40 minutes.
