The Madeira Wine Festival, scheduled for 25 August to 15 September this year, is a significant ethnographic and cultural event on the Portuguese island.Coinciding with the grape harvest, it celebrates the high-quality wine that has brought Madeira international acclaim.
Throughout the festival, Madeira’s wine is honoured across the island, with events unfolding in the capital Funchal’s streets and extending to the vineyards and cellars of rural areas. It pays tribute to Madeira’s 400-year-old wine-making tradition.
Madeira Wine Lounge
The festival will introduce the Madeira Wine Lounge at Praça do Povo, offering guests a cosmopolitan and modern setting to taste some of Madeira’s exquisite wines and enjoy thematic dinners that reflect the unique flavours and wines of each wine-producing area. A stage will feature a variety of musical acts and performances by regional bands spanning multiple genres. The lounge aims to showcase the Madeira Wine Region, providing an opportunity to enhance their understanding of Madeira wine, including PDO “Madeirense” and PGI “Terras Madeirenses” wines.
Music During the Festival
Additional attractions of the Madeira Wine Festival feature the 19th European Folklore Week, scheduled from 25 to 29 August, orchestrated by the Boa Nova Folklore and Ethnographic Group. Moreover, on the 7 of September, Estreito holds the Wine Harvest Festival, that re-enacts the arduous task of grape harvesting, complemented by a culinary showcase and music.
The Madeira Wine Festival offers a series of musical concerts throughout the region. These events are set in picturesque wineries and sunset backdrops, occurring when the day’s heat has subsided, allowing guests to unwind with fortified wines as they enjoy lively live performances.
