Sanguine, Museum of Modern Art Antwerp
June 1, 2018 - July 9, 2018
As part of the city’s Baroque Festival 2018, the Museum of Modern Art Antwerp (MH A) is presenting Sanguine (Bloedrood) from June to September.
The exhibition, which is curated by figurative painter Luc Tuymans, juxtaposes the work of the Baroque masters with some contemporary masters and promising artists.
The work is conceived as a dialogue between the works of Baroque artistsFrancisco de Zurbarán,Francisco Goya and Georges de La Tour and those of more contemporary artists, such as On Kawara, Chuck Close and Edward Kienholz, as well as up-coming stars Danh Vō, Zhang Enli and Takashi Murakami.
For more ideas of what to do in Belgium, away from the galleries, read Mark Bibby Jackson’s From Saints to Sinners: the Bars of Brussels.
The exhibition features some works from the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp.
The organisers hope that will challenge visitors by transferring the drama of Baroque masters into the experimental arena of contemporary art.
Sanguine runs from June 1 to September 16, entry is from 11am to 6pm, except Thursday when it is open to 9pm, closed Monday.
