If you’re heading to London this autumn, the Royal Court Theatre should be at the top of your itinerary. From 10 October to 29 November 2025, its Jerwood Theatre Downstairs will host the world premiere of The Unbelievers, a moving new play by acclaimed writer Nick Payne (Constellations, We Live in Time).
The Unbelievers
Directed by the award-winning Marianne Elliott (Angels in America, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) and designed by the celebrated Bunny Christie (Company, People, Places and Things), the production promises to be one of the season’s most talked-about events.
At its centre is Nicola Walker (Unforgotten, The Split), one of Britain’s most compelling actors, playing a mother whose teenage son vanishes without a trace. As time fractures around her grief, she refuses to abandon hope. It’s a story about family, faith and the strength we find in the darkest moments.
The cast also features Ella Lily Hyland (Black Doves), Paul Higgins (Line of Duty, Slow Horses), Esh Alladi, Alby Baldwin, Harry Kershaw, Martin Marquez, Lucy Thackeray, and Isabel Adomakoh Young.
With lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Nicola T. Chang, and movement by Etta Murfitt, The Unbelievers brings together some of the most exciting talent in British theatre today.
