Vienna Christmas Market 2020
December 1, 2020 - January 3, 2021
It’s the season to be merry, but one Christmas Market stands out from the crowd – well it is the original one after all. Not that the Vienna Christmas Market is a single market, but rather a series of some 20 fares across the Austrian capital.
Nor for that matter was the original market strictly a Christmassy affair, as the first December market held in Vienna was a meat market granted by Albrecht I in 1298. But we will let the burghers of central Europe argue the toss over which was the first festive market in Europe.
This being 2020, it is best advised to check what restrictions are going to be in place in Vienna before you visit the Christmas Market. As of 8 November all the information below is correct. COVID-19 measures will be announced here. Due to the curent lockdown in Austria no Christmas markets will start before 1 December. However, some may be cancelled altogether. We will update this page once details become more firmly established.
