Vinterjazz is a national festival which takes place every February across the whole of Denmark. It will feature hundreds of concerts in different venues from Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense and Esbjerb to Copenhagen, to light up the country’s jazz scene.
The aim is to spread the love of jazz throughout the country. Although famous international jazz musicians are invited to play, encouragement is also given to nationwide local groups to take part.
Venues vary from small wine bars and outside events, to famous musicians playing in large concert halls in Aalborg, Copenhagen and Helsingør. Many of the musicians tour the country.
Further attempts are being made to reach the more remote parts of Denmark to promote the festival, with a series of jazz concerts in neighbouring towns, organised by local non-profit making communities. The intention is to have the same function as the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, held in the summer. A list of venues can be found here.
The focus is on Danish Jazz and independent organizers and jazz associations throughout the country working together to identify venues where the musicians can perform. Kenneth Hansen is the Festival Director of both Vinterjazz and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
When is Vinterjazz 2026?
In 2026 the Vinterjazz runs from 30 January to 28 February, and will take place in various venues. It is the 25th anniversary of the Danish jazz festival.
