The countdown is on to the best Celtic Festival worldwide as Barbados hosts the annual edition of its eclectic folk music festival ‘Barbados Celtic Festival’ from May 24 to 27. Boasting a three-day extravaganza of entertainment, folk music and food-focused fun, the festival celebrates the deep connection between the Celtic regions and the sunlit Caribbean island of Barbados.
A wonderful mix of well proclaimed local, regional and international talent from Ireland, Scotland and Barbados will descend upon the island for this truly unique event. The festival will be headlined by Hamish Stuart and Molly Duncan from the Original Average White Band – playing their iconic black soul music from the 1970s. Visitors will be treated to a traditional Celtic showdown with folk musicians from the Scottish Borders Riddel Fiddles collaborating with Barbados Suzuki Violin School to massed bands, marching through Barbados’ beautiful historical city, Bridgetown.
Gracing this year’s festivities is award winning Head Chef, Paul Wedgwood, set to cook up a storm with an enticing menu of Celtic and Barbadian flavours. From savoury pudding Haggis, made with local ingredients such as black belly sheep to Caribbean Cranachan which offers a Bajan twist on a Scottish classic with the island’s golden elixir, rum, the event promises a delicious fusion of cultural flavours and creative dishes.
