Follow the Buenos Aires Food Map in September

Buenos Aires food

With a raft of new restaurants openings, quirky food tours and artisan culinary festivals, the Buenos Aires food scene is undergoing a vibrant new makeover.

This September, the Argentine capital’s culinary trailblazers will celebrate what’s great about its ever-evolving cuisine, with a series of events, food tours and new restaurants.

Starting on 8 September with the week-long Semana de la Gastronomía Porteña, restaurants throughout Buenos Aires will offer special menus of their best dishes at bargain prices. With lunch and dinner options, it’s a way to try authentic Porteño cuisine and sample the flavours of its new culinary stars while sightseeing in neighbourhoods across town.

Alternatively, why not try our selection of food tours in Southeast Asia.

Then on 14 September, for a BBQ like none other and as Argentine as it gets, the Mercado de Hacienda in the bustling neighbourhood of Mataderos will be lined with hundreds of barbeques or asados, as chefs compete at the Campeonato Federal del Asado BBQ competition.

More street-focused treats are to be tasted at the Apetito Festival Gourmet (8-9 September, 6-7 October and 9-10 November), where the city’s finest food trucks and pop-ups will gather at the historic Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo horseracing track to offer a variety of creative, fast, informal cuisine.

To complement the events and to track the latest restaurant openings and food scene gems, a new selection of food tours has recently popped up. Allie Lazar is a food journalist who has lived in Buenos Aires for seven years. Her ‘anti-tour food-tours’ go beyond the tourist and guide book recommendations with a private food tour peek into Buenos Aires new cool and creative food haunts.

For another locals’ perspective, Buenos Aires Food Tours offers three local tours focusing on La Boca, San Telmo and La Recoleta – all renowned for their food scene.
