The Spanish Tourist Office (UK) announces the launch of Spain’s Sustainability Day, a conference event in central London which will address the new challenges of tourism and sustainability. Following the conference, Spain’s inaugural Sustainable Media Awards will take place with nominations now open.

Spain’s Sustainability Day will be held at The Conduit (6 Langley St, London WC 2H 9JA) in Covent Garden on Wednesday 26 April 2023 and is aimed at the UK and Spanish travel industry representatives, as well as relevant media.

The conference will welcome keynote speakers and panellists taking to the stage to discuss and debate the current sustainability challenges in tourism and a wide range of topics, from the social aspect of sustainability, to dealing with mass tourism, greenwashing, aviation and transportation, amongst other themes.

Sustainability will be incorporated into every element of this event, from the venue to the catering.

Manuel Butler, director of the Spanish Tourist Office says:

“We are excited to launch our inaugural Spain’s Sustainability Day this year. We all know, the delicate relationship between tourism, the environment and climate change urgently demands attention. This event will raise important questions about the future of sustainable tourism and showcase important examples of sustainable tourism in action. To celebrate the efforts of the UK media over the last year, we are also launching our Spain’s Sustainable Media Awards which will recognise articles, blogs and photography that highlight sustainable travel themes within Spain.

Spain’s Sustainable Media Awards

Spain’s Sustainable Media Awards will celebrate the best sustainability features written by UK travel writers showcasing green or sustainable initiatives in Spain.

Judges will look to acknowledge all aspects of sustainability touching on social, cultural, economic and environmental factors. They will value the importance of forming a connection with local people and cultures, visiting lesser visited areas and taking part in low-impact activities such as cycling and walking, as well a travelling by train and other forms of public transport.

Nominations for the awards are now open and close on Friday, 24 February 2022. The submissions will be judged by a panel of key industry figures. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony as part of Spain’s Sustainable Day on 26 April 2023.
