Fully vaccinated travellers to Thailand can now enter the country without the need for pre travel covid testing, as part of the country’s Test & Go policy.
No Pre Travel Covid Testing
From 1 April, so long as visitors are fully vaccinated, they do not need to take a pre travel pcr test or a pre arrival antigen test, instead they will be required to now need to take a test upon arrival.
Thailand Pass and other Pre Arrival Requirements
Prior to arriving in Thailand, passengers need to obtain:
- A Thailand Pass (via https://tp.consular.go.th/) for arrivals by air and land; or a Certificate of Entry (via a Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate-General) for arrivals by water.
- An insurance policy with coverage no less than US$20,000.
- A proof of prepayment for one night of accommodation at government-approved hotel.
- Certificate of COVID-19 Vaccination or Certificate of COVID-19 Recovery.
Requirements Upon Arrival – Test & Go
Upon arrival, travellers must then proceed via a sealed route to their pre-arranged accommodation where they will take their Day 1 RT-PCR test. Should the test prove negative then travellers can travel freely throughout the country.
They will be provided with an Antigen Self-Test Kit for a self-test on Day 5, and record the result via the MorChana application or another specified application.
Should travellers fail the test they need to report for appropriate medical treatment, the cost of which should be covered by their insurance.
Although the removal of the need for a pre arrival covid test represents a considerable step in opening up Thailand to tourism, they still lag behind the measures adopted by neighbouring Cambodia whose governement has removed covid testing for travellers in its efforts to fully open up the country to tourism.
The measures have been introduce in time for the Songkran Festival, one of the biggest ceremonies in the country which will be going ahead in 2022 albeit with certain restrictions.
