A new free transport service launches in Yosemite’s Tuolumne County this week for locals and visitors to enjoy the busy summer season and explore Yosemite without the need of independent navigating. The Tuolumne Adventure Trolley serves Sonora, Columbia State Historic Park and Jamestown every Saturday in July, from 8.30am to 10pm, and will run through until the end of September 2018. The trolley stops at many hotels and attractions within a 1.5 hour loop and riders are able to hop on and off to experience as many places as they please.
Sonora
Sonora is a great base camp when visiting to Tuolumne County with easy access points to main attractions and different types of accommodation including hotels, camping and RVs parks. Downtown Sonora is also home to shops, restaurants, and fascinating museums. Highlights include: Farmers Market; eclectic shops and art galleries in Historic Downtown Sonora; live music every 2nd Saturday; and Dragoon Gulch Trail.
Jamestown
Located on the Highway 108/49 corridor, Jamestown is the first town you encounter when entering Tuolumne County from the west. It is also the spot where gold was first discovered in the County. Several of the town’s buildings that date back to the 1870s and 1880s are occupied by quaint historic inns, restaurants, shops, a cigar bar and even wine tasting rooms of local vineyards. Highlights include: Railtown 1897 State Historic Park; Walk of Fame, a walkway stretching between Rocca Park, downtown and the 1897 Historic Park, dotted with artistic medallions of the many movies and TV shows shot in the area; and two boutique tasting rooms at the Inner Sanctum Cellers and Gianelli Vinyards.
Columbia
Immersed in California’s Gold Rush history, Columbia offers a truly authentic local experience. You can stroll along wooden sidewalks, ride an authentic stage coach, pan for riches of gold and chat with knowledgeable and friendly townspeople dressed in period attire in Columbia State Historic Park, stay in Historic inns, and discover downtown restaurants, working blacksmith shop, old-fashioned bowling alley, theatre and shops supplied with locally made treats and trinkets. Highlights include: gold panning, live performances at historic Fallon House Theatre; and stagecoach rides through the limestone remnants of the mining industry on the outskirts of town.
