Asia Adventure Cruising with Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel has added Asia itineraries to its Adventure Cruising collection in response to the growing demand for more sustainable cruises. Starting in December 2018, travellers can now experience Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia Adventure Cruises, offering a more immersive style of travel to little-known towns and villages in some of the world’s best destinations.

These journeys are designed to be low impact and the small ships carry no more than 50 travellers on-board, meaning they can visit the small ports that big ships can’t get to. Each cruise will operate without an engine for one day and every trip is carbon offset through a range of renewable energy projects.

Thailand – visit the Sea Gypsies of Moken Village

Intrepid’s new eight day Cruising the Thai Islands explores the Similan islands, one of the most interesting dive areas in the world where there’s plenty of opportunities for snorkelling, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking in the idyllic, warm waters of the Andaman Sea. Hike the rainforest interior, scramble over boulders in a UNESCO World Heritage site formed of islands before some downtime spent enjoying the laidback nightlife of Khao Lak. See how the minority Sea Gypsies of Moken Village live and learn about their hunter-gatherer lifestyle before relaxing on deck with a leisurely barbecue with fellow travellers. Prices start from £1,811 per person and depart in December 2018 and January and February 2019. This holiday includes seven nights’ accommodation aboard a small cruise ship, breakfast and lunch daily plus six dinners and most activities. Excludes flights.

Vietnam – explore Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

Spend 15-days Cruising the Coast of Vietnam from Intrepid to explore the dreamlike scenery of South East Asia’s impressive coastline. Be enchanted by Ha Long Bay and venture to extraordinary Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, where caves as long as 30 kilometres were only recently discovered. Gain an insight into the pottery demonstration in Bau Truc, the oldest pottery village in South East Asia and visit the historic Vinh Moc tunnels and Khe Sanh Combat Base for an eye-opening insight into the America-Vietnam war. Drop anchor in Phan Tiet to see the gigantic Tra Cu reclining Buddha, the Fairy Spring and the remarkable sand dunes of Mui Ne. Prices starts from £3,362 per person and with departures in April and May 2019. This holiday includes 14 nights’ accommodation aboard a small cruise ship, breakfast and dinner daily plus five lunches and most activities. Excludes flights.
