Discover Arizona in Bloom

McDowell Sonoran Preserve - Purple (1)

Desert landscapes may be arid, but they don’t always have to be desolate. In March and April, Arizona’s Sonoran Desert bursts into life as a frenzy of seasonal blooms fill the sun-bleached scenery with dazzling hues. Poppies, lupines and owl clover put on spectacular displays if conditions are right, supported by a colourful cast of cacti and shrubs such as brittlebush and fairy duster.

Mountain Biking in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve

It’s the perfect time to explore the region’s miles of hiking trails such as those up Camelback Mountain, which forms part of Scottsdale’s scenic backdrop.

Scottsdale itself is a desert resort offering big-city sophistication and style that’s paired with plenty of sumptuous spa retreats and outdoor activities. In addition to hiking, there’s river rafting, mountain biking and golf galore to experience, alongside classy bars and lounges for an end-of-day margarita or two.

North America specialist Bon Voyage suggests a seven-night stay at the upmarket Andaz Scottsdale Resort, located in aptly-named Paradise Valley, which costs from £2,125 per person and includes flights from either LHR, MAN and GLA, seven nights’ room-only accommodation in a bungalow-style guestroom and SUV car hire for the duration.
