Hiking Heaven in Innsbruck

Innsbruck Tourism has launched a complete seven-day hiking programme – designed to take the strain out of tackling the stunning landscape in and around the Capital of the Alps.

Innsbruck Trek, a joint project with Alpine School Innsbruck (ASI), takes visitors on a seven-day circular tour, taking in the beauty of the city and moving out to explore the impressive mountain massifs and major landmarks the region has to offer.

Visitors can choose to complete the tour with a professional mountain guide or independently with all maps and travel documents provided, plus booked hotel accommodation, luggage transfer and a 24/7 service number.

There’s also the choice each day to opt for one of two routes, each designed for different abilities – and comfort is assured with pre-booked accommodation in selected hotels all arranged as part of the initiative.

The circular route begins from Innsbruck’s famous attraction, the Golden Roof, and from the heart of the city hikers head for the Karwendel mountains, taking in the picturesque slopes of the Nordkette.

There’s the opportunity to see the picturesque larch meadows along the Mieming Plateau, before heading to Kühtai and the Stubai Alps, passing through the mountaineering villages of St. Sigmund and Gries im Sellrain, before the trial leads to Axamer Lizum with a view of the unusual rocky pinnacles of the Kalkkögel, or known by local people as the Dolomites of Innsbruck.

Hikers then tackle the Zirbenweg trail on the Patscherkofel mountain that passes along one of the Alps’ last remaining 800-year old stone pine forests, before heading back to Innsbruck.

Peter Unsinn, Head of Market Management for Innsbruck Tourism, said: “Innsbruck Trek is a really exciting initiative for 2019, which unites the most beautiful hikes around Innsbruck.

“It provides visitors with a stress-free way of exploring all the wonders of the region, plus the guided trekking tour is perfect for those who feel less confident hiking in the mountains on their own.

“We’ve put convenience and comfort at the heart of the programme.  Instead of mountain huts, with shared bedrooms and bathroom facilities, our guests will stay in three and four star hotels, with luggage transfer organised for them, so their belongings are waiting for them at their new destination.”

Hikers are asked to bring essential equipment with them, including appropriate clothes and footwear, a water bottle, rucksack and sun protection.

The self-guided trekking tour starts from €755.00, whilst the guided trekking tour starts from €875.00 – click here visit for more details.
