New Escorted Walking Tours of Cornwall, Croatia, the Orkneys and Peru

Walking in like-minded company while discovering new cultures and cuisine is a wonderful way to explore the world. With this in mind, Kudu Travel has launched four new escorted walking tours for 2018:

Peru: Exploring the Incas’ Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu

This 17-day itinerary focuses on the Inca and colonial sites in the Andean highlands, and includes a trip on the newly-launched luxury Belmond Andean Explorer. Other highlights include the historic centre of Lima, the city of Arequipa at the foot of a snow-capped volcano, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu. Exploring the Incas’ Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu (18 April-4 May 2018) costs from £6,328 pp (two sharing), including 16 nights’ full-board (15 nights in hotels, mountain lodges and mansions and one night on the Belmond Andean Explorer train, from Puno to Cusco), all land transportation in a private vehicle, internal flights (Lima-Arequipa and Cusco-Lima), a boat trip on Lake Titicaca, return Inca Rail train journey between Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu Pueblo (aka Aguas Calientes), all entrance and sightseeing fees, the services of specialist local guides and drivers, plus a Kudu Travel tour leader. Walking grade: standard (1-3 hours per day).

Cornwall: Art, gardens and walks on the South West Coast Path
Cornwall’s rugged coastline, mild climate and exceptional light has attracted artists ever since Turner’s first visit to St. Ives in 1811. This short break combines a visit to the recently reopened Tate St Ives (with a new ‘Modern Art and St Ives’ display with work by Ben Nicholson, Peter Lanyon, Barbara Hepworth, Piet Modrian, Naum Gabo and Paule Vezelay), guided tours of three special Cornish gardens (Trewidden, Godolphin and the Lost Garden of Heligan) and three walks on the South West Coast Path, developed originally by coastguards for patrolling Cornwall against the threat of smugglers. Art, Gardens and Walks in Cornwall (23-27 April 2018) costs from £1,550 pp (two sharing), including four nights’ full-board (two nights in St Ives and two nights in Fowey), all land transportation in a private vehicle, all entrance and sightseeing fees, plus a Kudu Travel tour leader. Walking grade: standard (1.5-3 hours per day).

Croatia: Walks in Istria for orchids and mediaeval frescos

Explore the heart-shaped peninsula of Istria by foot and enjoy delicious fresh farm cuisine on a week-long trip. Discover Pula Arena, the best preserved Roman amphitheatre in the world, the mediaeval fortified town of Dvigrad, Rovinj’s picturesque harbour, the hilltop town of Motovun with its 14th century battlements and Byzantine frescoes in Hum, the smallest ‘town’ in the world, with just 21 inhabitants. Walks in Istria (2-9 May 2018) costs from £1,891 pp (two sharing), including seven nights’ full-board in various hotels (three nights in in Fažana, three nights in Motovun and one night in Opatija), all land transportation in a private vehicle, all entrance and sightseeing fees and the services of a Kudu Travel tour leader. Walking grade: standard (2-3.5 hours per day).

Scotland: Walks and Prehistory in the Orkneys

Scotland’s Orkney archipelago contains some of oldest and best-preserved Neolithic sites in Europe. See many of the UNESCO-listed sites in the Neolithic Heart of Orkney that featured on the recent BBC2 documentary, ‘Britain’s Ancient Capital: Secrets of Orkney’, including the Standing Stones of Stenness, the stone Ring of Brodgar and Skara Brae, an original Stone Age village. There is also an opportunity to see Britain’s most northerly cathedral, the 12th century St. Magnus in Kirkwall, and the Scapa Flow Naval Museum on Hoy Island. Enjoy daily walks through the inspiring coastal scenery of the Mainland (island) and five other islands (Burray, South Ronaldsay, Rousay, Hoy and Graemsay). Walks and Prehistory in the Orkneys (28 May-4 June 2018) costs from £2,366 pp (two sharing), including seven nights’ full-board in various hotels (two nights in Kirkwall, two nights in Stromness and then a further three nights near Kirkwall), all land and sea transportation as described, all entrance and sightseeing fees and the services of a Kudu Travel tour leader.
