Visit Mérida’s Classical Theatre Festival

Mérida, the historic capital of Extremadura, best known for its extensive Roman ruins, is hosting its annual International Classical Theatre Festival until August 26.

Now in its 64th year, audiences can witness spectacular performances of eight classic plays, including ‘The Ghost Comedy’ by Plautus and Euripides’ ‘Hippolytus’, all taking place at the Roman Theatre of Mérida, a two-thousand-year-old stage and the oldest working theatre in the world.

Stay at the four-star converted 18th century convent, Parador de Mérida, for seven nights, from £827 pp (two sharing), including flights (Gatwick to Seville), B&B and car hire.
