Walk on Water in the Scilly Isles

The Tresco low-tide experience is a highlight on the Scillonian calendar and gives visitors the chance to truly experience the flavour and comradery of island life.

Between midday and 2pm on three days this summer, the tide is low enough for people to walk across from Tresco and Bryher and meet up on the inter-island sand bar, which becomes the makeshift stage for a free festival.

As well as live music and games, there’s a feast of food and drink with fire pit-cooked Mussels, ‘Bryher Bangers’ and tasty seafood treats washed down by bubbles and ales galore from a pop-up bar.

Dates for this year have been confirmed as 15 July, 13 August and 10 September, so now is the time to book a holiday to the islands. Arriving on 13th July or 11th August, Prestige Holidays (www.ukprestigeholidays.co.uk Tel: 01425 480600) has a three-night break to The New Inn on Tresco for £549 per person, including breakfast, return ferry from Penzance and transfers.

Just moments from the sea, the New Inn is a typical coastal property where guests and islanders can enjoy the fabulous views and a range of tasty dishes. The property boasts a heated outdoor pool, a cosy and stylish lounge and an AA rosette restaurant. Reminiscent of the Caribbean but only 28 miles from Cornwall’s Lands End, Tresco is a subtropical gem complete with white sandy beaches, emerald fields and crystal blue waters.
