Interested in Portugal?

Portugal is in south-western Europe mainly on the Iberian Peninsula, bordered by Spain. With glorious beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, it is a varied and very popular destination for many travellers. The islands of the Azores and Madeira also come under the jurisdiction of Portugal.

The Algarve Portugal

The Algarve was conquered by the King of Spain from the Moors in 1471. It has glorious wide golden beaches and dramatic Atlantic rollers. Some of the remaining cobbled streets still retain their Moorish feel. It is great fun to walk along the beach and eat in one of the many seafood cafés or restaurants, perhaps taking a glass of vino verde to wash your clams, sardines or lobster down. The quaint town of Lagos is well worth a visit with its 14th century walls.

Lisbon, Portugal Capital

Lisbon, one of the oldest cities in the world, is the largest city in Portugal and lies along the River Tagus and the Atlantic Coast. Take a boat trip along the river and view the palaces and other classical buildings on the shoreline. There is a richness of architectural styles to explore: Romanesque, Baroque and some post-modern buildings. The National Ajulelo Museum helps the visitor to soak up Portuguese culture.

Sintra

Visit Sintra at the foot of the Sintra Mountains and view the 19th Century Moorish Pena National Palace built high on a hill top. This elaborate building was constructed for the elite of Portugal as it shelters in cool pine forests. A must to visit.
