Situated on the village green in Dalbury Lees, The Cow is just seven miles from Derby city centre and offers its guests a heady combination of luxurious accommodation and a mouth-watering menu in an extended and fully refurbished former country pub. It’s the first Cow in what – it is hoped – will soon become a prize-winning “pedigree herd” of top quality hotels and inns with that name.
Many months of work have gone into the transformation of The Cow at Dalbury Lees – not least by Rob Cole, a joiner and cabinet maker, whose work throughout the entire premises has become one of the best examples of the group’s decision turn this into a bespoke property. And every effort has been made to ensure that all original features have been retained and revealed by a local team of dedicated professionals.
Each room has also been individually designed, themed and decorated during the refurbishment, and the main public area will be the bar and restaurant, where guests will be able to mix with diners and locals, while enjoying meals from a menu created by executive chef, Gareth Ward, in tandem with head chef at The Cow, Ben Peverill.
Management at The Cow at Dalbury Lees are aiming to create a home-from-home ambience, where guests can escape to the country to enjoy some understated opulence.
The Cow is the first boutique hotel to be unveiled by the newly formed Cow Hotels Ltd. It is operated by the same team that have brought The Horseshoes at Long Lane and Cock Inn at Mugginton back to life over the last couple of years. Their Cow Cab, meanwhile, will offer transport between the properties – especially the nearby fine-dining Horseshoes at Long Lane.
The Cow, however, is also close to Derby’s regenerated city centre, which is now filled with a growing array of places to eat and drink, museums, galleries and one of the largest shopping malls in the country.
Rooms at The Cow start from £120 per room for two people, including full English breakfast, subject to availability.
In addition to now boasting the boutique city centre Cathedral Quarter Hotel, the city also welcomed the Kedleston Country House boutique country inn to its portfolio at the end of 2015. Another recent newcomer is The Coach House B&B which now offers its guests three stylish boutique rooms in a converted stable block.
