Foraging in Arctic Sweden Off the Map

Arctic travel experts from Off the Map Travel are proud to announce the launch of a new Fall into Foraging travel experience in Arctic Sweden this autumn where guests will learn vital wilderness skills, and collect ingredients across the region, to be used in a specially prepared Arctic dinner on the final evening.

Home for this new foodie and wilderness experience is the stunning Brändön Lodge, a generous traditional log-built lodge nestled in the trees on the coast line east of Lulea. From here a professional local guide will test guests Arctic wilderness skills and impart knowledge and techniques passed from generation-to-generation.

Jonny Cooper, Arctic travel expert and founder of Off the Map Travel, said; “With spectacular wildlife and wilderness, the Lapland region is home to some of the best foraging and fishing opportunities in the world and this new experience gives guests the chance to not only understand and learn from expert guides, but also catch and gather ingredients to create a spectacular final meal.”

With the chance to learn key survival skills including building a fire using only what you find in nature; examining fresh animal tracks; and identifying the best place to set up camp – this new experience has a mix of wilderness and food that is designed to satisfy.

The waters surrounding Brändön Lodge are filled with some of the Arctic’s most prized bounty. As part of the new itinerary guests will join a scenic boat tour around the coast to catch yet more ingredients for the final feast. Continuing around the coast, the boat will dock at Jopikgården where guests will spend a night.

A return journey the following day will head to some of the best wildlife spots on the coast with seals bathing in the Autumn sunshine and reindeer foraging in the overgrowth around the coast. With a stop-off at a local island to forage for your final seasonal ingredient, the boat drops guests once again at Brändön Lodge where a specialist wilderness chef and your final banquet awaits.

“The chef will take all of the ingredients collected over the wilderness adventure and take you through a fascinating cooking course,” adds Jonny cooper of Off the Map Travel. “Then it’s time to enjoy the final banquet whilst sitting back and hunting for the Northern Lights as the skies darken.”

As with any itinerary from Off the Map Travel, every itinerary can be tailor-made to fit the wishes and requirements of any guest. As an example, 4-night, 3-day Fall into Foraging experience available from 14th September to 18th November starts from £1725 per person, based on 2 adults travelling on full board basis, not including flights. This includes three nights at Brändön Lodge and one at Jopikgården, a Nordic wilderness skills activity experience, a boat tour with fishing, a seal safari boat tour, an outdoor cooking class with wilderness chef, and transfers to and from Brändön Lodge.
